Experience

Editing, 2006–2026

·       I worked as language practitioner for Aros (a teacher training college) for four months while their language practitioner was on maternity leave.

·       I meticulously and painstakingly edited examination papers in Afrikaans and English for the Independent Examinations Board, for logical organisation, clarity, completeness and correctness. I paid special attention to the ease of reading and correct understanding of the papers and the graphics. I did this by applying the principles of plain English.

·       I edited journal articles, theses and dissertations.

Translation, 2006–2026

·       I translated an archaeology book, Forgotten World, for Wits University Press from English into Afrikaans.

·       I translated a wide variety of texts for various clients.

·       I translated a children’s newspaper from English into Afrikaans from 2006 until 2011. 

Proofreading, 2016–2026

·       I proofread four English and one Afrikaans book for Wits University Press.

Skills

My technical skills include familiarity with Microsoft 365, the Wordfast translation tool and the proofreading of PDFs.
