SATI Prize Nominations 2012


We are pleased to announce that the following nominations have been received for the 2012 SATI Prizes for Outstanding Translation and Dictionaries.


Literary Translation

  • Linda Rode for Bitter Heuning, the Afrikaans translation of Hermione Suttner’s English novel Bitter Honey, published by Kwela Books in October 2011
  • Mari Weeks for Just Dessert, Dear, the English  translation of Marita van der Vyver’s Afrikaans novel Dis koue kos, skat, published by Tafelberg in May 2010
  • Daniël Hugo for Tikkop, the Afrikaans translation of Adriaan van Dis’ Dutch novel of the same name, published by Protea Boekhuis in 2011

  • Philip de Vos for My bed is my bed, the Afrikaans translation of Mij Kelly’s A Bed of My Own, published by Human & Rousseau in July 2011
  • Philip de Vos for Net Sisi, the Afrikaans translation of Wendy Hartmann’s Just Sisi, published by Human & Rousseau in August 2010
  • Elsa Silke for In the Never-Ever Wood, the English translation of Linda Rode’s In die Nimmer-Immer-Bos, published by Tafelberg in September 2009
  • Kobus Geldenhuys for Sandra se seepresente, the Afrikaans translation of Marion Drew’s Nici’s Pocket Presents, published by Tafelberg in September 2010
  • Elsa Silke for My name is Vaselinetjie, the English translation from Afrikaans of Anoeschka von Meck’s Vaselinetjie, published by Tafelberg in June 2009
  • Kobus Geldenhuys for Woestyngevangene, the Afrikaans translation of Andrea Abbott’s Desert Prisoner, published by Tafelberg in September 2011
  • Lydia du Plessis for Ek en Bella: Lekker verjaar!, the Afrikaans translation of Jenny Valentine’s Iggy and me and the happy birthday, published by LAPA Publishers in 2011
  • Jaco Jacobs for Ek soek ‘n tier, the Afrikaans translation of Joyce Dunbar’s I want a mini tiger, published by LAPA Publishers in 2011
  • Elsa Silke for Shorn, the English translation of Leon de Villiers’s Afrikaans youth novel Toko, published by LAPA Publishers in 2009


Service translation

  • Johan Zerwick for Tiragatso Ya Itlhagiso Ya Setlhare Se Se Okeditsweng Ka Kgetsi Mo Bothateng Jwa Popo Ya Metato Ya Dipeipi Tsa Oli, the Tswana translation of a computer-science research article by LT Baitshenyetsi, JM Hattingh and HA Kruger entitled Applying an extended tree knapsack approach to an oil pipeline design problem. The Tswana article was published by the Operations Research Society of South Africa in their journal ORiON at the end of 2011 (Volume 27(2): 2011).

The winners will be announced at a function at the University of Johannesburg on Saturday 29 September 2012.
